Sail Boat with people

Sailing

Our program is designed to accommodate any situation from individual to groups with special needs to training for Paralympic competition in sailing. Our program leader, Tom Nowak, has many years of experience being out on the water and is willing to accommodate any special need to share his passion of sound with others. There are three options within the sailing program.

Saturday Sailing

9 am until Noon
Introductory sailing trip

Every Saturday, we will take out a group to experience the joy of sailing, find out what it is all about, and encourage them to participate further in our adaptive sailing program. This is free and open to all with a disability. Our trips take us up and down the inner Harbor and out onto the open water of Lake Erie. Please come and experience the fun of sailing and see the amazing views of the Buffalo waterfront. We request that you make a reservation at least three days before, but if space is available we will take on walk in/role in participants.
Intermediate sailing

Sailboat with people

For those wishing to further their adaptive sailing experience, lessons of sailing basics are offered. You may have the opportunity to crew on our sailboat or use one of our small boats (one or two person occupancy) to improve their sailing skills. Our boats are adapted to accommodate people with a disability. This opportunity is reserved for registered participants in our program. Reservations need to be made at least three days before your desired outing.

Tuesday evening race

5:30pm until dark

Every Tuesday evening, the Buffalo harbor racing series takes place. This is for a more experienced sailor and is on a first come availability schedule. You will be teamed up with disabled and able-bodied sailors to compete against other mixed crews.

We try to accommodate any disability and offer planned group trips. If you would like to schedule a group outing for people with special needs, please contact us to make the arrangements. We will need at least a week to organize our resources.
